Indiana income tax in 2026
Indiana taxes income at a flat 2.95% for 2026 after a $1,000 exemption per person. Every county adds its own income tax.
The rate fell from 3.0% to 2.95% on January 1, 2026. Each taxpayer and dependent gets a $1,000 exemption, and each dependent child gets an additional $1,500; this estimate treats every dependent entered as a child ($2,500). County income tax is selected separately and uses the same taxable income. For 2026 only, Indiana allows the same deductions for tips and overtime premium pay as the federal return, for state and county income tax.
- Standard deduction: none.
- Personal exemption: $1,000 for you ($2,000 for a couple) and $2,500 for each dependent, taken off income.
- 401(k): traditional contributions come out before Indiana income tax, as they do for federal tax.
