Connecticut income tax in 2026
Connecticut taxes income at 2% to 6.99% after a personal exemption that shrinks with income, with a personal credit at lower incomes and add-backs that remove the benefit of the low brackets at higher incomes.
This follows the Department of Revenue Services' 2026 withholding calculation rules (TPG-211), which mirror the return: the personal exemption ($15,000 single, $19,000 head of household, $24,000 joint, $12,000 separate) falls by $1,000 for each $1,000 of income above twice the exemption amount until it reaches zero; the initial tax comes from the bracket table; the 2% phase-out add-back and the benefit recapture are added; and the personal tax credit percentage for the income level is subtracted. Connecticut has no standard deduction. Paid leave (0.5%) is a separate paycheck line.
- 401(k): traditional contributions come out before Connecticut income tax, as they do for federal tax.
