Colorado income tax in 2026

Colorado taxes federal taxable income at a flat 4.4%. Paid family and medical leave (FAMLI) is a separate paycheck line.

Colorado starts from federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction applies. Taxpayers with adjusted gross income above $300,000 must add back the part of their federal deduction above $12,000 ($16,000 joint). Colorado requires overtime deducted on the federal return to be added back, so the federal overtime deduction does not reduce Colorado tax. Colorado starts from federal taxable income, so the federal deduction for tips also comes off Colorado taxable income. From 2026 Colorado adds the overtime deduction back (House Bill 25-1296), so overtime is taxed in full.

  • Standard deduction: the same as the federal one: $16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly, $24,150 head of household.
  • 401(k): traditional contributions come out before Colorado income tax, as they do for federal tax.
