Oregon’s income tax is one of the higher state schedules, from 4.75% to 9.9%, and the standard deduction is small. There is no general sales tax, which is a real household fact and not a line on this stub. What is on the stub, for almost every employee, is the statewide transit tax: 0.1% of wages, no cap. It has been that rate for years. TriMet’s payroll tax is an employer excise and is not withheld from you here.
Portland is not the whole state. Metro’s supportive housing tax and Multnomah County’s Preschool for All tax apply to residents above income thresholds, modeled at $125,000 single and $200,000 joint, with a second Preschool slice higher up. They are filed with the Oregon return more often than they are a classic wage-withholding line. Select “Portland / Multnomah County” only if you live there. Someone working downtown and living in Vancouver, Washington, should leave it off.
Oregon allows a deduction for federal income tax that this estimate does not compute, so the state line can run high. The personal exemption credit is removed in the model once income passes $100,000 single or $200,000 joint. Paid Leave Oregon’s contribution is not in the payroll file yet.

Local tax
Portland / Multnomah threshold taxes are optional and resident-only above high income thresholds. The 0.1% statewide transit tax is separate and already in the payroll model for Oregon employees.
What is not included
Credits, itemized deductions, multi-state credits, property tax, sales tax, and unsourced local rates are not included. Employer payroll tables can differ from this annualized estimate. This Oregon page does not invent taxes that are missing from the 2026 data files.
Questions
Does every Oregon paycheck include Portland’s taxes?
No. Those taxes are for residents of Metro and Multnomah above the thresholds. Select them if you live there. Otherwise you still see state tax and the 0.1% transit tax.
What is the 0.1% line?
The statewide transit tax withheld from employees under ORS 320.550. It is not TriMet, which employers pay.
Why might this Oregon estimate be high?
The partial deduction for federal tax paid is not modeled. High earners should treat the state line as a ceiling, not a payroll printout.
